Frequently Asked Questions

With Hypnotherapy, you can become happier, healthier and more confident. Change your life from within.

Q. What is hypnosis?

A. Hypnosis is a state of relaxation with a bypassing of the critical faculty.. which means that in hypnosis, your unconscious mind will accept suggestions which usually your conscious mind would be at conflict with. You are aware of your conscious thoughts.. but not your unconscious thoughts.

Q. How does it work?

A. A hypnotic induction does nothing more than present a series of ideas to both your conscious and unconscious mind that focuses the interests of both in the same way without causing conflict.

Q. How safe is hypnosis.

A. Hypnosis is 100% safe. It is not possible to come to any harm due to hypnosis as hypnosis is a completely natural body process. We all go through hypnosis naturally several times a day without realising it. Hypnosis is a natural state similar to night time dreaming.

Q. Will I fall asleep during hypnosis?

A. If you are very tired, you may possibly want to fall asleep, but this is not very helpful and if I notice you are falling asleep.. I will awaken you and ask you to return when you are feeling alert.

Q. Does hypnosis always work?

A. Not any more than any other form of medicine.. either orthodox or complimentary. Sometimes, if the rapport is not good between a hypnotherapist and client, this can create an unsuccessful result. A responsible therapist will soon realise this and suggest that maybe the client might  like to try a different therapist.

Q. Can you hypnotise someone without them knowing it?

A. You can, if you have the skills to do so. The use of 'hypnotic language patterns' and pacing and leading body language will do it. But you still could not get that person to do anything with hypnosis that they would not do without it. Hypnosis merely overcomes inhibitions helps you program your instincts to create the behaviour and responses you require.

Q. Can anyone be hypnotised?

A. Most people can be yes, the exceptions being, those who are taking mind altering drugs, anyone who is under the influence of alcohol, people who are subnormal or suffering from senility and very young children.

Q. Can you make somebody do something they would not want to do?

A. No, in my opinion, you cannot make somebody do something that they would not want to do or be morally wrong to do. Hypnosis lowers the inhibitions, so maybe somebody who wanted to sing at the top of their voice on stage and who might possibly be too shy to do so normally... would find that they could... but it would not make you do something that  would go against your moral code.
